Charles and Nancy Deadman

Class of 1953-4: 
Ice-cream makers, Nancy (Hockett) and Charles Deadman opened the doors of Chocolate House Candy and Ice Cream store in 1962. They began with 19 flavors of their homemade super-premium ice cream. As their ice cream gained in popularity in the Madison area and throughout the State of Wisconsin, they began distributing to local restaurants and renamed the company “Chocolate Shoppe of Madison”.  In 1976, Chuck and Nancy opened a new production and distribution facility which has allowed them to expand sales to 35 states.  The company currently employs a staff of 53 who annually produce more than 1 million gallons of highest quality premium ice cream in 110 flavors. The Chocolate Shoppe won Best of Madison in 2018 and every year, thousands of residents of Wisconsin and other states enjoy Chocolate Shoppe ice cream, including scoopfuls at Bratfest, Concerts on the Square, Taste of Madison and Art Fair on the Square.
